Due to the increasing of competition, a company is required to have a competition advantage in order to maintain its position in the competitive business world. PT. Barata Indonesia (Persero), which is one of the State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) engaged in manufacturing, is currently located on the competition in order to meet customer demand. Through its Foundry Production Division, PT. Barata Indonesia (Persero) is trying to compete in both domestic and international markets. Although in recent years Foundry Production Division has increased production outputs, but faced with the problems of high-level delay. Therefore, the system requires improving the Shop Floor Control (SFC), which can increase productivity in order to overcome the problems occurred.
The purpose of this research was to determine the factors causing the problems that delay the order completion as well as made improvements to the Shop Floor Control (SFC) system as an effort to increase productivity in Foundry Production Division at PT. Barata Indonesia (Persero). The research was using a qualitative explanatory approach that explained why a problem may occur and how to solve that problem.
According to the data processing, the research showed that there were several factors that led to the problem based on cause and effect diagram seen from 5 points : Man (Human Resources), Machines (Machine used), Methods (Work Methods), Materials (Raw Materials used), and Environment. It was found that the most influential factors to the delay problem were in terms of Man and Methods. Refer to those factors, then conducted Improvement of the Shop Floor Control (SFC) system that consisted of activities such as the making of master schedule, standard schedule, production schedule, detail schedule, workshop loading, loading of critical machine, delivery control sheet, and check progress of work. In addition, the other improvement activities also performed such as the collection and comparison between realisation and planning of productive hours, analysis of non-productive hours, and a decrease in non-productive hours. The implementation of this system was an effort to increase productivity at PT. Barata Indonesia (Persero). The SFC improvement system was then supported with quantitative data through simulation testing using the Arena Software. The test results proved that the recommendation SFC system had larger output than the existing system. This indicated that the SFC improvement system could increase productivity in Foundry Production Division at PT. Barata Indonesia (Persero). This research recommended that the implementation of SFC system should be accompanied with socialization to all employess in order to create consistency of its implementation and set forth the rule so that the company can perform monitoring and evaluation in order to create a continuous improvement system.
